H. 21.5 cm. Clay. Near Eastern, 1200-800 B.C. CHF 6,600Zoomorphic vessel in the shape of a stylised stag. Powerful, compact body on short, cylin-drical legs. The head is crowned by a pair of large, curved antlers. A small ear that points downwards is located at the base of each antler. The eyes protrude slightly and are offset by a circular incision. The slender, tapering muzzle serves as spout. A funnel-shaped filling-hole on the back of the vessel. Traces of a reddish coating. Antlers, left foreleg and a fragment of the rim reattached. Minor fillings.Formerly priv. coll. Sam Dubiner, Israel, 1954-1958. The animal sculptures of the Amlash culture (North Iran) are stylistically related to our rhyton, although they generally have only one opening and are more heavily stylised due to their use of di-stinctive curved contours. Western Asia, possibly Yortan culture, 3rd mill. B.C. CHF 5,800Slender head with long snout. Grooves for the mouth and ears; eyes and nostrils drilled. The powerful body with short legs is shaped as a square when viewed in profile. Short, upright tail. Incised linear decoration filled with white: intersecting diagonal lines with short lines in the interstices on either side of the body, several lines encircling the base of the neck and a vertical line at the rear. A drill hole below the tail. A loop for suspension on the back. Tip of tail and left ear slightly worn.From the estate of the Swiss art dealer and collector Elsa Bloch-Diener (1922-2012), Berne, acquired between 1968 and 1983. 3A LARGE BRONZE PIN WITH MOUFLONH. 19 cm. Bronze. Western Asia, 6th-5th cent. B.C. CHF 1,600Long, slightly tapering pin. Top end decorated with a mouflon (a type of wild sheep) with majestically curved horns. Hair or garment pin.
